Ive been trying to buy a motorcycle for about 2 weeks.

Im not looking for a pretty bike.
Im not looking for a rare bike.

All I want is a registered 1 or 2 cylinder bike, with a decent stance, solid engine, little rust and low handlebars that I can put my own spin on.

My budget is 2000$(and slowly shrinking), not alot but should be enough right? I dont even have to stop at the bank! Ive got an envelope with cash sitting in my helmet on my desk.

And yet whenever I e-mail or call someone selling something (I think Ive investigated roughly 15 bikes at this point) I get either the infamous "ohhh that *just* sold" or absolutly nothing at all.

Sorry for whining, but this is borderline ridiculous.

What are you looking for? I have a CB550 4 cheap project, cb360, Suzuki GSX600, Harley Sportster (but more than double your budget on that one). I passed a 750 honda 4 along the road for sale somewhere near my town. I realize those have more cylinders than you want--seems like for a twin a Yamaha XS650 would fit your bill pretty well, or an SR500 single--

Hey, not nicky has the REALLY COOL Matchless 500 single for under your budget. Did I say it was a REALLY COOL looking bike?

Where you at?

south orange county, CA. yeah, I have my eye out for an xs but theyre damned hard to find out here.

After alot of phone calls with no results I found out from one of the sellers that there is a pretty nice swap meet in Long beach next weekend. He said he went last time and passed on 2 Triumph 650s, 1500$ for the pair!

If any of you guys have any leads for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you posted anything at tonup.com? There's quite a few members in the SD area that come across bikes pretty often.

I know California runs a bit high on bike prices (I live up in the Bay Area), but not finding anything decent under 2K in in the greater LA area is pretty amazing.

Finally found my bike!

Had to go up to thousand oaks for it but well worth the trip in my opinion.

on the one hand, I miss out on the fun of doing it myself. on the other, I get to jump in and ride the hell out of it.

My only plans are spokes, bar end mirror and maybe a british front number plate, if I can find a proper one (and a suitable fender to mount it on)

Also need a good turner to sync the carbs for me.
