dudes out here in boston are doing the same stuff. no gear, dirtbikes on city streets. pretty crazy stuff. I do not know how the cops can just sit there and not do anything.... guess they are too busy busting skateboarders

its funny, last fall i pulled into a gas station on the way home from the shop. there were about 10 guys in there. all with hondas. fueling up. and at my old shop i was out one day on a friends rs125 zipping up and down the street. this kid pulls up next to me on a cr250. like, lets race. yeah....right.

the problem is around baltimore, its gotten really bad. every day i see at least 5 or 6. and if im stereotyping...sorry. you should just stop reading now. but you know probably 90% of them are stolen. which pisses me off. these guys ride everything from scooters, jr50's, to crf450's. my pit scooter was ditched behind my shop dumpster. the juvenile justice building was at the end of the block and the kids would ditch their shit there while they were meeting their po's. i know that for a fact. i grabbed my scooter after it sat there for about 4 hours. the city has been building fences and tearing up median strips because they use them for travel lanes. they dont chase them because they killed a kid a few years ago chasing one and of course there was a huge huge stink. and if they think theyre going to get a motocross park, theres no way. not with what property is costing around here. and even if there is the outside chance they do, if they think any of those kids are going to buy a $300 pair of boots, or a helmet, or anything, theyre wrong. not to mention a way to get the bike there. alot of those bikes still have factory knobbies on them. just bald as shit. it only takes a few hours of street riding to destroy a set of knobbies. that and if they did that, theyd have to run vin#'s. and that would prevent most of them from going anyway. not to mention the gang violence that would ensue. these arent kids who want to ride dirt. they want to run drugs, and dodge cops. it sucks. all i can think is that most of those bikes are stolen. and it pisses me off. not to mention almost every time i go into the motorcycle shop for parts now there is some 15 year old gang banger trying to get new wheels for his banshee cuz his are bent from jumping curbs, only to find out he cant afford them. or something else like that. anyway, it sucks. a kid who can ride wheelies like that has some talent, and hes probably going to get killed by someone pulling a volvo out of a driveway. which will probably be the only way it will end. and i say let the cops chase them. they are criminals...until then, everyday im tempted to ride my racebike to work. but i know where i'll end up.

rant over

didn't ballmore pd crash a helicopter chasing after a dirtbike?

hey, tex, hum, uh.. i'm gonna have to hurt you. do not, ever, evaevaevaevaeva associate bawlmer with that stupid shit hole that is the DC beltway -495- <-ok, that's my rant. (don't take it personally, i just absolutely hate 495)

joey, kid, i know what you mean brother. the problem isnt that they are black or that the cops don't chase them, it's the lack of respect. i agree with you about the dirt track man, i know it will never happen and it will never work for the reasons you mentioned which are the exact same ones i thought. yes, the wheelie is talent, yes, some of these guys can really ride, but instead of being impressed i am saddened (sp?). i love this city, i really really do, i love the people, but i agree with chris rock and bill cosby, this "it's cool to be ignorant/stupid" thing has got to stop. i know so many people who are not like that and are trying to live normal lives and raise normal kids and it's just damn tough when no one in your neighborhood actually cares. and it's not necessarily their fault either, no one cares about them to begin with, so why should they care about themselves or anyone anyway. it's a very closed vicious circle that i hope one day is broken because there are a lot of talent and intelligence that could be harvested for better use. i'm sad.

what pisses me off is ill get pulled over for having a loud pipe. or no helmet, should i ever dare. and these kids get a free pass just cuz they'll run? who decided that because someone doesnt stop for a flashing light they should just get away? where is the fairness in that? where is the respect? not just for the cops but for people who decide to wear a helmet and have plates? so if i dont feel like stopping, i should just wind it on, and figure they arent going to chase me? so whats to prevent me from riding my racebike or xr100 on the street everyday? no plates? no lights? they are going about this completey the wrong way. they need to have motorcycle cops who can actually ride. the bpd has drz-s'. im guessing those guys cant ride to save their lives. they need more better motorcycle cops, on cheap dual sports, not 600lb harleys, and they need to increase the penalty exponentially.

on the black comment, i have to tell you. 99.9% of the kids i see doing this are black. let me tell you this story. back in december when we were getting our bikes together for short track racing, i had just mounted up my new tires. i took them across the street into the empty office building parking lot to scuff the tires. it is completey walled and no one can see from any of the surrounding streets. im just riding in circles in 1st gear. i pull into the lot and theres a cruiser parked in there with 2 of baltimores finest jamming subs in their holes in the crusier. 2 cops i know from the bike shop. so i think nothing of it and just continue to ride in circles. well, the cop comes racing over and they both jump out and go for me and the bike. i recognize both of them as they are the usual guys who have that beat on friday nights. (they stop in the bike shop and chat our ears off for hours while writing parking tickets out front) they are always cool with us and ask if were parked there etc...anyway, fucking 4' rambo jumps out and is yelling at me to get off the bike. so i do, and he says step away from it, at which point i tell him it has no kickstand and im not going to drop it on the ground. so he grabs the bike and is grilling me about what im doing etc. so i take my hat off and just say to him "dude, i work in the bike shop across the alley, you come in there every weekend, you know all of us" so he looks at me and goes, "oh, yeah, ok, i didnt recognize you with the hat on. you dont really fit the profile anyway" wtf is that supposed to mean? i mean...cuz im riding an xr 100 around a parking lot, but im white, there should be some other way to handle it? what if i decided to take off? then what? that cop hasnt come back into the bike shop. the entire thing just pisses me off.

someone has to do something about it.

Also, I've been very tempted to ride like an idiot through traffic and Boston like that. But I don't. I don't because I have a future, have a job, have a wife and a house. I do something stupid and end up in jail or dead, then it's not just me that gets screwed.

I'm not saying that these idiots have no future... but its part of the whole "its cool to be an idiot". If you think you have no future, why the hell shouldn't you cut it up while you can?

its getting to be a national thing alot of drug runners are using dirt bikes to distribute in the city.
And recent click on speed channel covering the bike scene in ATLANTA they had footage of gang rides with them zipping between cars that left "0" margin of error just irresponcible life threatening riding on the highways.cutting in front of cars at high speed....pure stupidity .Should have been on the cutting room floor and not broadcasted to the mindless that think its cool.

Im so far behind ,that I think Im in first.

in baltimore, the "profile" means black. i was also in one of the nicest areas of town. not 4 blocks over where it is common to see those guys. it is cool that they can ride like that, but the fact that they get away with it, and there is nothing they will do about it, and everyone knows because theyve come out and said it, really pisses me off. its common knowledge that the gang on the east side rides all stolen bikes. its part of their thing. so when i see a guy riding a wheelie down rt40 in baltimore on a new yzf250, it makes me think that bike belonged to someone who paid for it, and worked for it and now they are out a great machine. and id bet the guys that ride them dont have a clue about what to do when they break. the scooter i grabbed was soo fucked up. the wiring was just a disaster. because some hack butchered it to steal it. i look at my xr100 and wonder how long it would last in the back of my truck out side of my shop. sucks. i also wonder if they know what the real value of things like a ti force pipe are, or a bbr big bore kit, or anything like that. itd be an interesting thing to put an add in the local paper and see what kind of calls youd get for something like a cr125.

the kid on the phone riding the wheelie on the 4 wheeler is pretty funny.

What's all this about drug runners? So, lemme get this straight...Wheelie Man has a couple grams in his back pocket and thought he'd horse around between drops? Maybe so. But maybe not. Maybe he's just some hairball out having fun. Is his bike stolen? Maybe so. But maybe not. Maybe he bought it on Craigslist. Did he buy it with drug money? Maybe, maybe not.

I'm not apologizing for anyone. I'm just sick of all the veiled hostility I gotta deal with every day, both black and white. I teach in an inner-city high school. The place is like a crucible for racism. Each night, everybody goes home and refuels thier bigotry, resentment and fear only to come in the next day and work together pretending like nothing's wrong. Until something stupid happens. It'd break your heart to see a 14 year old, all upset about some teenage thing, parroting his or her parents' vile bigotry and bullshit sense of entitlement. And, sure enough, all along the white folks are watching, taking notes, strengthening their stereotypes but never calling the bigotry out.

Funny how that cop used the word "profile" isn't it?

Yeah, there's a "no future" mentality. Yeah, they're acting like idiots. Yeah, someone's gonna get hurt or killed. But these aren't the first idiots to ever ride around in groups, cutting lanes and raising hell. What makes them so different, other than that they're black?
