i said meets, not meats.

but seriously im jealous of seemingly everywhere else in america having good swapmeets, summits, shows etc...

austin texas is a joke as far as locally finding parts for your ''cafe'', classic british, jap or anything else thats not a harley. we dont have a vinmoto, and even if i ever get my 350 built up...i dont have a track to race it on.

speaking of... i almost picked up a non running(but titled) 68 cl350 scrambie in decent shape for 200$. except some twat beat me there, bought it, then immediately put it back up on craig's for 600$.

im having a hard time dealing with this state.

end rant.

Lubbock rocks for finding old bikes for, basically, free...even better in the little towns about...but Texas sucks for tracks. We got two options...Dallas or Houston.

if you knew where to look you'd know who in town to talk to for parts. i'm sitting on more 350 shit than i'll ever do anything with and most of it came from in town. so what, you have to drive two and a half hours to houston or dallas to find a grave yard, there's shit within spitting distance popping up on CL all the time, i've had to quit looking before 2000sqft won't hold it all any more.

cmra races all over texas at a dozen different tracks in everything from vintage to modern classes

and there's plenty of things to bitch about in this world but living in a city that's barely felt the impact of the economic crash, has a ten month riding season, amazing riding roads to the east and west, the fucking green belt, barton springs, and so many half naked girls you can't even ride near campus without rear ending a car.

you need boxes to pack all your shit to expedite your moveto a fucking cold weather rain forest?

finding parts for your ''cafe'', classic british, jap or anything else thats not a harley.
Then you should go to the Harley meets. I find my best "jap bike" deals at the HD meets.
I live in PA. about 25 miles from the HD assembly plant and it seams like most of the Harley Heads just want to get rid of their rice burner stuff, they dont know what it fits and they either want a bundle for it or next to nothing fot it.
I go to most of the Carlisle swap meets also. Even if it is just for cars, the motor heads may have some bike stuff also.
Its odd though, when I have a bundle of $ in my pocket just burning a hole to get out, I never find much. When Im broke thats when the awesome deals can be found.
You never know what you may find until you go there.

* GrandSport Speedway Hitchcock, TX (updated 7/06/07)

I've done a couple of trackdays here on my 400F. It's a tight 1.3 mile course - a good equalizer. I never noticed I was 100HP down on the rest of the class.

There are a few more track days scheduled for the fall. It would be a 3 or 4 hour drive from Austin, but you could make a weekend of it at the beach.

I thought there was a pretty active Triumph club in Austin. They met at the barbeque place on 2222.

yeah we have tons of neat crap, but its a college town. stereotypical frat attitudes. and yeah we have half naked girls at barton, but theyre hippies...or fat, or fat hippies.

i drove all the way out to waco for a harley swap and found zip.

texas has tons of small towns with old bikes but those people dont use cl.

i didnt know about all those tracks! i'll look into that.
