This is more of a conversion than a build but I thought I would share the process. Since I sold my other bikes some months back I have been working an angle to get another bike going. I picked for a extremely good price a 2002 Ducati ST4S. I have owned prior to this bike three other Ducati ST series bikes(99 ST2, 2000 ST2, 2001 ST4). They have always been good bikes for me. Since it's the only bike I have right now a sport tourer is not going to do. I have always liked the Paul Smart and Sport Classic models but the price point has kept me from buying one to this point. This build will be mostly cosmetic since the ST4S really does not need much enhancement in the performance area(especially for the street). I did some searching and I found a guy, Kostos from Greece he has developed a kit to convert the ST series bikes to a Paul Smart /Sport Classic lookalike. Since the ST4S already has the 996 engine and upgraded suspension I thought why not. Let me say I am not affiliated with him in any way and this is NOT a commercial for his kit. With that said the kit came in about a month. It includes a rear subframe a front subframe, Fiberglass fairing, windshield and fiberglass seat. There were directions but there is some cutting and some fab work (a little) required at least for my taste. I removed the stock seat, bags, side pods and front fairing. Then it was time to layout the rear subframe. After looking at it for a few days I thought the angle of the seat on top was off so I started measuring and decided to lower the seat bringing the front down. I think this will be better for looks and for my riding position I am 5'9" and I wanted to be a bit lower. I started cutting and after a few hours I was able to get the seat where I wanted it. The next thing was to cut the rear of the frame off so that I could put a hoop on the back. This was fairly strait forward I just broke out the Sawsall and it was done is a few minutes. This is as far as I got on the first few days of working on the bike. More to come...
