i never had an inspection on any of my bikes in mass. you were supposed to have the sticker on your plate but i never had one. i used to ride everywhere. i think you were supposed to have inspections every year. even old bikes but its been a while since ive had to deal with that. if the local bike shop does it, you might be able to talk them into working something out for you if youre a preferred customer. ask after you pay for that 300 dollar order. try being up front about what you have and they may cut you some slack. i think the important thing is that most cops dont know what they are looking at. my dad was a cop for years and when i asked him what he thought about my bike having historic plates and me riding it around anytime with clip ons and no turn signals, he said 98% of the cops wont know what it is they are looking at. he said there were only a few who who really knew anything about the bikes. in maryland, old bikes dont go through anykind of inspection ever. and new ones only go through at time of sale, or registration. never again. cars are the same way so you can drive them into the ground. there is a guy here who has an old caddie that he rebuilt with plywood and glass and resin. it has huge fins and its painted all black. its been driving around the city for at least 10 years. so if you need to get it through inspection, get it through then start hacking things off. keep the speedo. and definitely keep the mirror youre supposed to have. ride like you have a brain in your head, and you shouldnt have any problems. remember, chances are, you know more about bikes than anyone whos going to look it it in passing. you can also look into getting historic plates. sometimes those vehicles dont need inspections. youre supposed to be only riding on certain days etc...but it could be an easy way around. i ride my bikes anywhere anytime with historic plates and have never had a problem. most of the time it just has to be comming from or going into the shop. so its an easy way out. anyway,
good luck
